Life in Milan was becoming increasingly more exciting. Events were on almost every night of the week and none more renowned that Fashion Week. Being in the fashion capital of the world, we glammed up to take part in Vogue Fashion Night Out. This one salubrious night, the shops open their doors until late and offer shoppers show bags, cocktails, music as they showcase their new season collections.
We met some friends in front of the Duomo around 6pm and already the crowds were getting big. Stores were just starting to welcome shoppers with red carpets, DJs, drinks and more. We wandered along the main shopping areas amazed at the impressive displays of each shop. It was almost impossible to get inside some shops due to huge crowds of excited people.
We struggled our way through the immense crowds popping into shops as we went. I picked up some freebies after a little shopping at Clinique and Eldad even got gifts too! We saw the crowd go crazy for a guy on a balcony, although we didn’t know who he was. It was all part of the excitement.
After a few more shops and a few more full shopping bags, we retired to a bar to enjoy a cocktail away from the hectic streets. We had lost some friends along the way, but were confident they were enjoying the fray that was Vogue Fashion Night Out. We certainly did.
By the time we were ready for home, the metro had stopped running so we jumped on a tram back to Navigli. It had been a fantastic experience, and I understood why Milan is so important to the world of fashion.
Milan is not only about fashion and design though. The MiTo is a festival of music and arts in Milan and Torino. Milan hosts a fantastic program of music from a variety of genres at spectacular locations around the city. One such special concert we attended was the Symphony Orchestra of Milan (Orchestra Sinfonica e Coro Sinfonico di Milano) performing Giuseppe Verde and Igor Stravinsky in the Duomo.
We met a friend, Chiara before the concert. Chiara is a Milanese local who has been exceptionally welcoming to us, as we have been navigating this wonderful new city. We were joined by some of Chiara’s friends and headed for the concert. The setting of the symphony was magical and the music was glorious. It was a very special evening and one I will remember for a long time.
There is so much happening in Milan all the time and for all tastes. It is truly an interesting city to be living in and one full of character. I think it is a lifestyle that suits me quite well…!
